Introducing: Endura! A Super-Durable and Beautiful New Countertop Material
Corian, once a brand associated almost exclusively with solid surfaces (e.g., your parents’ bathroom shower surround), has evolved into a leader in the kitchen and bath industry for their countertop and surface solutions. In addition to modernizing the Corian Solid Surface selections for modern applications and near-infinite design possibilities, Corian Quartz (formerly Zodiaq) offers a wide range of high-quality, stylish quartz composites that are made with industry-leading technology, and are durable, beautiful, and low-maintenance.
Now, Corian Endura has emerged onto the market and we here are Driftless Kitchens are quite smitten. (Before we go any further- this is not a paid post, though these are all products we carry and endorse.) Endura is a high-performance porcelain that is formulated with natural minerals under intense heat and pressure (like a diamond!) and the result is a material that can withstand just about anything you an throw at it. You can set a hot pot directly from your stove on it. You can use it outdoors. It’s non-porous so it doesn’t absorb food (or bacteria), making it super easy to clean. You can use it in a commercial application. Your four year old kid can write on it with Sharpie and then you can scrub it off without damaging the surface in any way. You can even chop directly on the surface with a knife (though this will damage the edge of your knife blade and you will need to visit the fine people over at Carisolo Knife Grinding). In fact, when my Corian rep sent me a little Endura demonstration kit, it included a butane lighter, a sharp knife, a Sharpie, a brillo pad, and cleaning solution to show clients first hand how durable it really is.
But what really got us interested are the truly beautiful colors and finishes that Endura has to offer. Check them out on the Endura website, or see samples in our showroom. On a recent custom kitchen project that involved an old barn-turned-hangout space, we installed a fun, modern kitchen and used the Deep Metal color for the countertops. It almost looks like slate, and is definitely living up to its promise of durability (photos to come soon!).
If you’re thinking about remodeling your kitchen, installing a new kitchen, would like to replace your countertops or looking for materials for other spaces (fireplace surrounds! bathroom walls! outdoor bars!), contact us at here and you can see this exciting material firsthand. For now, check out the below video (courtesy of Corian Endura). Thanks for reading and we hope to be working with you on your custom kitchen or kitchen remodeling project soon!
